Introduction

Two of the most important fields of study in music are theory and history. Here at ClassicalFree, we've arranged our curriculum to cover both these areas. In the first two courses you will learn the basics of theory, including the important ability to read music. Then you will be ready to move on to a study of history, more fully enjoying the great composers you will learn about as you understand some of the tools they used in their composition.

In this first course you will learn how to read music. By the end of fifteen lessons you should know everything you need to read any music you see. Learning to read music fast is like learning to read words--it takes years of practice and the more you review, the faster you get.

The last four lessons in this course will be especially fun and valuable to you. First, you will learn how to sing the music you've learned to read. Second, you will learn how to use a hymnal. These skills are important to a Christian, since we are commanded in Scripture to sing to the Lord. (Ephesians 5:19, Colossians 3:16)

So, without further ado, let's get started.
