REV. RAYMOND P JOSEPH
B I B L I C A L S T U D I E S
I grew up on a NE Iowa farm. My parents were members of the Hopkinton Reformed Presbyterian Church, a congregation of the Reformed Presbyterian Church of North America. The RPCNA subscribes to the doctrines of the Reformation as articulated by Calvin and the Westminster Confession of Faith. The parallel Declaration & Testimony emphasizes the obligation of nations to Covenant with King Jesus, appointed by the Father in Psalm Two as King of nations.
In 1945 I graduated from Hopkinton High School, then spent 18 months in the Army Air Force, five of those months in the Philippines. Returning home, I attended Geneva College, graduating in 1951; I attended Iowa University School of Medicine for 1 year. I then went on to graduate from the Reformed Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Pittsburgh in 1956.
On September 3, 1955, I married Alice Muriel Smith, daughter of Covenanter minister Rev. A.W. Smith. We moved to San Diego in June 1956 to become involved in the organization of the mission work into a congregation.
Beginning with San Diego, my pastorates have been: San Diego, CA 1956-62 (where four of our five children were born: Brenda and Brian—twins, in 1956; Philip in 1958; Barbara in 1959). In 1962, I took the call to the Greeley, CO congregation where I served from 1962-67.
In 1967 I moved the family to West Lafayette, Indiana, to work with a Bible study group meeting in a doctor’s home. The move was “tent-making” – I worked as a script writer for Midwest Program for Airborne Television Instruction – (“MPATI” – pronounced ’em-PATTY’) – which daily flew DC-8’s in a “figure eight“ over Montpelier Indiana, broadcasting educational programs to schools in a six-state area from a retractable television antenna mounted on the belly of the plane. I was responsible for script-writing a television series teaching economics to junior highs by television. The West Lafayette church (a Purdue University student ministry) was organized a year later, in 1968. During the following 16 years, I met with scores of Purdue University students, teaching them Bible Study methods.
Our 5th child, Rebecca Alice, was born in Lafayette in 1972. In 1983, we moved to Pittsburgh, then to Atlanta, Georgia where I taught various subjects at Chalcedon Christian School for two years – (history; science; American literature, math; others).
In 1986, I answered the call to Southfield, where I pastored from November 1986 until I retired at the end of 2001, after 46 years of ministry.
Alice and I now live in Alpharetta, GA, beside one of our families with eight of our 22 grandchildren.

MRS. ANN MYERS, B.A., M.A.
L A T I N
Mrs. Ann Myers has taught Latin at the secondary level for fourteen years. She holds a B.A. in Classics from the University of Pittsburgh and an M.A. in Liberal Studies from the College of Notre Dame in Baltimore, Maryland. As part of her graduate education she took a study tour on ancient Roman archaeology which included sites in Rome, Ostia Antica, Pompeii, and Herculaneum. She has also traveled with students on tours to Italy.
During her teaching career Mrs. Myers has observed a dramatic increase in interest in Latin. She strongly believes that this renewed interest is well founded, and she will vouch for Latin's merit in strengthening students' verbal and critical thinking skills.
Many articles and pamphlets have been circulated giving reasons for the study of Latin. Some of those reasons include an enlarged English vocabulary, better scores on college entrance exams, and a good base for studying other languages. Personally, Mrs. Myers credits Latin for introducing her to authors whose writings are the foundation of Western thought and crucial for the understanding of history; for broadening her interests by making connections to other fields of knowledge (history, science, law, theology, etc.); and for making her virtually unbeatable in Scrabble.

John D. Schwandt, M.A.
Curriculum Vitae
P.O. Box 8473 - Moscow, ID 83843 - info@BiblicalGreek.org - 1-800-445-2456
John D. Schwandt is a Fellow of Classical Languages at New St. Andrews. He currently teaches all of the Greek courses, and previously taught Latin and Hebrew. Mr. Schwandt completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Idaho. He earned his Master of Arts from Westminster Theological Seminary in California in 1997. In addition, he has pursued further study in Latin, and the philosophy of language. He regularly travels to Greece to develop fluency in the modern Greek tongue.
Mr. Schwandt developed and is currently the director of the National Biblical Greek Exam. The NBGE is an online exam that seeks to promote the study of biblical Greek by accessing and directing students in specific areas of grammatical knowledge, and by giving detailed feedback to instructors and schools about the performance of their Greek programs. The National Biblical Greek Exam was very well received that the 2003 annual Society of Biblical Literature conference. Currently, there are a number of universities and seminaries using the exam.
Instructor for Greek In A Week intensive summer workshops, 1998-
Mr. Schwandt developed a curriculum of teaching the basics of biblical Greek in one week. Several educational and theological institutions invite him to teach Greek In A Week each year. In this program he meets with students and/or teachers for eight to nine hours each day, in which he lectures, drills vocabulary and paradigms, and assists with translation exercises. Please take a look at the host list for this year's GIAW, it only takes a class size of eight to bring Greek In A Week to your city.
Mr. Schwandt directs a couple of live online Greek tutorials for the Institute of Biblical Greek. This year Mr. Josiah Helsel will be teaching both courses. Throughout the academic year, these tutorials meet once a week for live two hour sessions. In the beginning course, students work through the Reviving Biblical Greek curriculum, which emphasizes conversational skills, and they work through many chapters in Machen's text, which emphasizes composition. The intermediate course is more of a directed reading group, which translates a gospel and two epistles each year. Both programs utilize an online forum or mutual assistance and encouragement.
Family
Mr. Schwandt resides in Moscow with his beautiful wife, Tabithah. They have three sons, John Owen, Samuel Rutherford and Kaspar Olevianus. They are hoping to develop some toddler and elementary Greek learning materials for parents who don't know Greek. Since children are accustomed to learning languages Greek study can be very beneficial and fun and these ages. There is no need to learn Latin first since everything it foreign to youngsters. John Owen learned the Lord's prayer in Greek at the age of two.

DR. PETER LEITHART, Ph. D. Div.
S H A K E S P E A R I A N S T U D I E S
| Peter Leithart is an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church in America, and teaches theology and literature at New St. Andrews College in Moscow, Idaho. He holds two Master's degrees in theology from Westminster Theological Seminary, Philadelphia, and earned his Ph.D. in divinity at the University of Cambridge. He has written books on ancient literature, Shakespeare, and Dante, as well as several books of theology. He and his wife, Noel, have nine children. | | Dr Leithart reports that in spite of the fact that his undergraduate degree was in English literature, "it wasn't until I started teaching a group of home school students in Birmingham that I fell in love with Shakespeare." Combining his knowledge of Christian theology with some of the recent Shakespeare films, he found that he was able to bring the bard to life for his students. No longer were they forced into "the dreadful experience of wading through hard-to-read English that they couldn't understand." | | It is that potent combination of theology and literature that Dr. Leithart now shares with students at ClassicalFree Academy. In addition to Brightest Heaven of Invention, his commentary on Shakespeare, his classical works include Heroes of the City of Man, a Christian guide to select ancient literature of the Greek era, the newly released Ascent to Love, a commentary on Dante's Divine Comedy. |

MR. PETER ROISE, B.A.
R H E T O R I C
L O G I C
Background: My name is Peter Roise, and I was born to Douglas and Michelle Roise in Grand Forks, ND on July third, 1978. My parents are both Christians and endeavored to teach me the fear of the Lord. At age three, when we were attending a Baptist church in Grand Forks, I was persuaded by my mother to pray the sinner's prayer and ask Jesus into my heart. I can barely remember this, so it is understandable that I can not remember a time when I did not consider myself a servant of Christ. I was later baptized at the age of eight in Bismarck at a Presbyterian church.
As I have grown, my family has also grown; today I am the oldest of eight children. Being the oldest meant that I was the guinea pig in the family. My parents started me out in a private school and then switched to home schooling; in highschool we also used a tutor for one year. After graduating highschool I went to New St. Andrews College and studied under Douglas Wilson, Douglas Jones, Christopher Schlect, Peter Leithart, Roy Atwood, Louis Schuller and John Schwandt. The opportunity to have studied at this college is one for which I am very grateful. These professors teach truth, goodness, and beauty, and they give God the glory in all. This year (2002) I will join the Moscow Greyfriars Ministerial Study Hall in the Divinity track.
As of November 25, 2000, I am a married man. On that day my beautiful wife, Claire, and I were joined in covenant bond. We thank God all the time for our marriage and trust that we will continue to work even better together than we did apart. Like myself, Claire was homeschooled and shares with me a voracious love of books. In the past she has worked in customer relations with her father’s business, but she says she finds being a wife and mother both more challenging and more rewarding. She can spell and punctuate better than I, but otherwise finds me intellectually stimulating.
December 14, 2001 Ingrid Renee Roise was born. She is currently eager to learn how to control her hands, mainly so she can get them into her mouth. Claire and I are, needless to say, new parents. We enjoy it and are also eager to learn. Inge is a blessing from the Lord and we seek His grace as we take on this new responsibility. |
Teaching Experience: I have taught internet tutorials for four years now and am embarking upon my fifth year. The experience has been invaluable. I enjoy teaching, and the internet provides a great way to do that, even during these years when I am not permanently settled in one area. I have on occasion taught in a traditional classroom situation, but the majority of my teaching experience has been online.
Education: I was homeschooled through most of grade school and highschool. I graduated Cum Laude on May 10th, 2000 from New St. Andrew's College in Moscow, Idaho, with a B.A. in Liberal Arts and Culture. I am now in ministerial training with Greyfriars Hall also in Moscow, Idaho.

DR. JIM BARTLETT PHD, PE ret.
M A T H E M A T I C S , S C I E N C E , E C O N O M I C S
1854 107th Street NE
Bottineau, ND 58318
Tel. 1-800-477-8626
Dr. Bartlett is the President of Bartlett University (bartlettuniversity.com). Bartlett University is designed to implement Biblical perspectives in higher education content and pedagogy. By extending family involvement in home education through the college years and helping students launch culture improving Christian businesses, Bartlett is "Defining the university and business for future generations." Psalm 78:6-7 & 1 Corinthians 10:24
Dr. Bartlett and his wife Lynn have been happily married for over 15 years and home school four boys. The Bartletts have led Christian ministries for college singles and married couples for over seven years, developed and advised college campus Christian ministries, and see the Biblical worldview (Isaiah 55:8-9; 1 Corinthians 1:27) as foundational for Christian education at all levels of learning and for maturity in the Body of Christ.
Dr. Bartlett learned secular humanism in automotive technology (AAS, NH Vocational Technical College, 1979), mechanical engineering (BS General Motors Institute & Purdue University, 1983 & MS, North Dakota State University, 1989), and Engineering (PhD, North Dakota State University, 1992). He received Christ in 1983 and began his true education (Proverbs 1:7) with the decision to home educate their boys in 1994 (Deuteronomy 6:7).
Dr. Bartlett taught and performed research in bone biomechanics, aircraft manufacturing, and electronics manufacturing engineering for 17 years at North Dakota State University. His 10 years of industry experience derive from General Motors, Northwest Airlines, and his engineering consulting business. The Society of Manufacturing Engineers awarded him the prestigious Sargent Americanism Award for innovatively teaching the business of manufacturing in 2003.
As God revealed to Dr. Bartlett that western culture had been secularized by Christian educators, the Holy Spirit led him to depart the secular university to pursue the implementation of a thoroughly Christian philosophy of education in his teaching, research, and service, as an example to his own children and others (John 13:15; 1 Timothy 4:12). He integrates the Christian faith with his teaching as exemplified in his papers titled Corrosion Illustrating Sin, Learning Pedagogy from the Master Teacher, Learning Biblical Business, Learning Through Entrepreneurship, Secularization by the Christian Educator, The Family University and Network, and smaller articles such as The Solder of Life and Eliminate the Teenagers. He is also writing a book to demonstrate how God’s word was confirmed in the history of North Dakota home schooling during the last few decades.
Dr. Bartlett was a leader in the development and implementation of a three million dollar National Science Foundation grant (2000 to 2004) to improve science and math education in the public schools of Minnesota and North Dakota. This experience further convinced him that large amounts of money are not needed to improve math and science education. Instead, the Biblical view of math, science, technology, engineering, business, and education (Matthew 6:24) are needed to optimize the learning of science and math.
As a certified online faculty, Dr. Bartlett has developed and taught many web-based technical courses. He emphasizes the importance of the student hearing the Holy Spirit teach and guide him or her, even through technical content, toward the development of Christian leaders (John 14:26). The inherent freedom of web-based courses encourages this aspect of personal diligence (Proverbs 10:4; Hebrews 11:6). He also co-teaches the online courses titled Developing a Biblical Worldview with Dan Smithwick of the Nehemiah Institute and the Preparing for Marriage course with Israel Wayne of Home School Digest and Encouraging Word Magazines.
For reference, the Bartlett family Christian history over the past 30 years has included membership and or leadership experiences in churches with the following characteristics: Congregational, Lutheran, Evangelical Lutheran, Christian community, Plymouth Brethren, Baptist, non-denominational charismatic, Assembly of God, and reforming house assembly.

As the school grows, the need for tutors expands exponentially. At present there is a need for course writers as well as distance learning tutors. Course writers are invited to invest their time and talent in an enterprise that is very likely to reward them and their heirs financially for many years. Each writer is asked to produce at least two courses in their area of expertise, an introductory, "grammar" level course (offered free) and one or more courses at the dialectic and rhetoric levels. The courses must be computer integrated and in general be patterned after the model of the Great Books Courses existing on-site. The grammar (introductory) level course must be a completely self-contained, self-taught, on-line unit. Upper level courses should be computer integrated, but may utilize other distance learning techniques, materials, or existing texts. The writer should refer to Jason Baker's books on distance education for guidance: "Christian Distance Education", "Christian Cyberspace Companion" and "Baker's Guide to Christian Distance Education".
Each writer receives a generous royalty for every student completing an upper-level course, for as long as that course is offered by the Academy. Please call 503-658-1755 for details. Upon acceptance of the course, the writer (or his heirs) sign a contract with the Academy which perpetuates the continued use of the course. In addition, should the writer contract to teach/tutor the course, he will receive a liberal fee for each student completing the class. The Academy and the writer/tutor work in tandem to publicize and promote the course and the Academy.
Individuals desiring to apply for the position of course writer and/or tutor must complete and submit the following application. Check the "Course Descriptions" link for available courses.
Each student tutor & monitor fee is distributed as follows, assuming a student to tutor ratio of 1:20 and a student to monitor ratio of 1:200:
- 75% to course tutor
- 10% royalty to course writer
- 15% to academy
Individuals applying as course writers and or tutors must complete and submit the following biographical form. Check the "Course Descriptions" link for available courses; courses that do not appear in that list have not yet been designed and written.
